What is the process of bucket mold manufacturing?

Bucket mould process

The injection mould manufacturing process begins with a 2D design drawing specified by the customer. If the sample provided by the customer does not have a 2D drawing, Go4mould’s mould designers can also create a design based on the sample barrel for you. After drawing the mould, there are several methods that can be used to manufacture the bucket mould. Depending on the complexity, size, structure and design of the bucket mould, CNC milling, turning, EDM and drilling methods can be used. All these methods can be used to produce custom injection moulds for different purposes.

Once the mould has been successfully manufactured, different surface treatments are applied to improve the appearance and durability of the mould. Finally, quality testing begins where we check the accuracy and durability of the required barrel mould. Moulds that pass the trial stage and are approved will be shipped to the customer.

Surface treatment processes for bucket moulds

The surface treatments for the box moulds are dependant on the composition, morphology, complexity, and structure of the mould. However, few surface treatment processes are typically used, some of them include:

  • Powder Coating

In the process of powder coating, the plastic bucket mould is given an extra layer of resistance by using a free-flowing, dried powder coating, that sticks to the surface.

  • Spraying

In the process of spraying, airbrushes or spray guns with compressed air are used to apply the coating of any type on the bucket mould surface.

  • Dip Coating

Dip coating as the name indicates is a process that involves dipping the plastic bucket mould into a chemical solution with the coating agent in it, to achieve a smooth surface finishing.

  • Electroplating

In the electroplating method, the bucket mould is coated with a thin layer of certain metal using an electrochemical reaction, which modified the surface properties of the mould.

Materials used in manufacturing bucket dies?

There are so many different materials that can be used for manufacturing bucket moulds. For achieving the moulds with different kinds of the mould cavity and core varieties, the most common materials include:

  • Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is the most used material for plastic bucket mould core and cavity production. Different grades of steel such as H13, P20, and 718 work best for plastic injecton mould manufacturing. P20 offers a long mould life and it is relatively cheaper than other grades.  H13 offers a rigid bucket mould due to its hardening properties.

  • Aluminum

Aluminum offers a great surface finishing for the bucket moulds and it offers valuable mechanical properties for plastic mould manufacturing.

  • Copper

Some bucket mould manufacturers prefer to add a small amount of copper in the steel grades like H13 and P20 etc for the core and cavity designs.

Although more expensive than typical steel, beryllium copper has sufficient hardness and strength, excellent wear and corrosion resistance, and is the material of choice for increasing productivity, extending the life of bucket moulds, and ensuring high-quality injection moulded parts.
